This is one of my favorite books that offers a chilling theory to explain how normal German citizens ignored clear evidence that something sinister was happening to a segment of their population during what I call Nazi Germany's "Holocaust Years" (1941-1945). Basically, the idea is that Hitler's regime plied citizens living inside German borders with consumer goods, so they wouldn't focus on the fact that a war was happening outside the German borders, and that some of their neighbors were missing. If you haven't read this book, buy it in paperback, or you can order a hard-copy from me (I have 1 extra book for sale in my bookstore, under
Craig's Favorites).
