It's taken 12 years, but I've finally hit my first Schloss Klessheim hoard, and this one is from a living veteran, who I had the honor of interviewing on the telephone about his adventures in Salsburg at the end of the war. The hoard includes some of the most common medals (themselves very rare) found in such hoards: Knight's Cross, RK KVK in Gold, German Cross in Silver, and a Grand Cross set for the Eagle Order series. For those of you who don't know, Schloss Klessheim was a castle outside Salsburg, Austria, where the Nazi Medals Office moved their supply of high level awards from Berlin, in anticipation of the coming combat that was approaching the nation's capital city. After the war, many veterans removed large quantities of these medals to take home. These veterans have become known as "Schloss Klessheim Veterans" by collectors.
